Blankenship, Charles Malcolm

Charles Malcolm Blankenship, age 68, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018, at his home in Ballard, WV. Born October 9, 1949, in Pineville, WV, he was the son of the late Harrison L. and Hazel Belcher Blankenship. While growing up, Charles was known by his nickname, “Feller.” He was such a cut up and always found ways to make everyone laugh; being silly was a joy for him. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to Vietnam where he proudly served his country. Charles returned from Vietnam and started a career in the coal mines where he retired after working 32 years. He loved farming and was very good at it. Additionally, Charles was a member of the Narrows VFW and loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Larry Blankenship, and brother-in-law, Conrad Day. Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Johnnie Patrick Blankenship; four sisters, Susan Morrone and husband Paul of Winterville, NC, Bonnie Day of Ridgeway, VA, Sharon Peters and husband Leslie of Winterville, NC, and Darlene Chapman and husband Gilmer of Eden, NC; one brother, Harrison L. Blankenship and wife Rosa of Hardy, VA; two daughters, Tosha Mutter and husband Thomas of Bradshaw, WV, and Michele Flores of NC; two granddaughters, Aimee Mutter of War, WV, and Lillian Flores of NC; and one grandson, Charles Everett “Lane” Mutter of Bradshaw, WV.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Eric Chapman officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
