Junior Curtis Bland, 77, of Blacksburg, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007, at his home.

The son of the late William Tom and Beulah Creasy Bland, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Polly Merritt and brothers, Willard, Haven and Ivan Bland.

He attended Christiansburg High School were he played football from 1946-1948. A veteran of the US Army he was a member of Edgemont Christian Church. He had been employed by the Christiansburg Locker Plant, Phillips Ford, Holiday (Duncan) Ford, Highland Volkswagen and Blacksburg Transit for ten years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Janet Phillips Bland; children, Rickie Bland and his wife, Karen Lee Anderson Bland, Moneta, Va., Dana B. Nicholas, Riner, Va., Susan Bland, Blacksburg, Va., and Karen Bland, Christiansburg; grandchildren, Christina Bland, Greensboro, N.C., Jamie Lynn Garlick, Portsmouth, Va., Rickie Curtis Bland II, Orlando, Fla., Jessica Garlick Layne, Fayetteville, N.C.; a great-grandson, Jared Allen Regan; a sister, Penny Allen, Joppa, Md.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 and Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Yopp and the Rev. Bobby Sutphin officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. The Bland Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, 382-2612.
