Bland, James Edward

James Edward Bland, 74, of Elliston, Va., passed away on January 11, 2012. He was retired from N & S Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Joeann S. Bland; his children, James Anthony and Terry Lee (Betty); grandchildren, Jessica Sowers (Clinton), whom he raised as his daughter; two stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Davis (Duane) and Matthew Peyton; five stepgreat- grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Catherine Bland of Radford, Dorothy Dalton of Blacksburg, Della Christian (Roy) of Salem, Shirley Richardson (Kenneth) of Christiansburg, Carl Bland (Betty) of Elliston, Curtis Bland (Doris) of Dublin and Wayne Bland (Renee) of Shawsville.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the Carilion Hospice for all the care they gave during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012, at the Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2012, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville.
