Cheryl Getchey Blackwell, formerly of Norfolk and Newport News VA and currently a resident of Radford, VA, passed away at home on October 8, 2015 at the age of sixty three. She died from pancreatic cancer.

Cheryl grew up and was educated in Norfolk and while at ODU, she met and fell in love with her husband, Bob Blackwell. She remained in love with him until the day she died. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Mason and Bari. Sadly, Mason predeceased his mother in 2014.

Cheryl leaves behind her husband of 42 years, Bob Blackwell of Radford and beloved daughter Bari Trussell of Salem and her son-in-law Michael Trussell. She also has three perfect grandchildren, Lily Hyatt, Harper Hyatt and Grayson Trussell.

Cheryl would like to be remembered as a person who loved life and happy people. She was fortunate enough to have surrounded herself with many such folks. They were always ready and willing to help her when needed, without making her feel “needy”, and that was a wonderful gift. Thanks, one and all.

A private celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at a later date. Cheryl’s favorite charity is The Free Wheelchair Mission, which provides low-cost chairs to those in Third World countries and a visit to their website will help you understand the need.

Love to all of you and please smile when you think of me.
Cheryl
