Bixby, Carolyn
Carolyn Bixby, 79, of Blacksburg, died on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery, surrounded by her family. She was born in Endicott, N.Y., on April 29, 1932, to the late Jean and F. Ray Humphreys. Carolyn was a loving wife and mother of six children and four grandchildren. She and her husband were also former proprietors of The Outdoor Shop in Lounsberry, N.Y., specializing in horticulture and landscaping materials. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James W. Bixby, of Blacksburg, Va.; daughters, Bobbi (Roberta) Kahn and her husband, Lance Sandvik, of Vallejo, Calif., Joann Bacon, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Martha Bixby, of Harrisburg, Pa.; sons, William Bixby and daughter-in-law, Rose Fong, of Valdez, Alaska, Mark Bixby, of Seneca Falls, N.Y., and James Bixby and daughter-in-law, Kate Bixby, of Blacksburg, Va.; brother, Frank Humphreys, of Boca Raton, Fla.; sister-in-law, Janet Humphreys, of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Briana and Mei-Lani Bixby, of Valdez, Alaska, Heather Gleason, of Providence R.I., and Elena Bixby, of Blacksburg, Va. A Memorial Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Humane Society.
