Oakie Thomas Bishop, 91, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, October 9, 2006. He was born in Floyd County to the late Thomas Acie and Dessie Shelor Bishop.

He was a retired shoe cobbler in Montgomery County.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Wilma P. Bishop; son, Mark T. Bishop and special friend Carolyn J. Ruble; daughter, Roberta Bishop Poole, all of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Carmen Poole Hammack and Phillip, Christiansburg, Carson T. Poole and Sylvia of Radford, Antoinette B. St.Clair and Terry of Christiansburg; greatgrandchild, Tristan C. Poole; stepgrandchildren, Jeremiah Simmons and Jacob Simmons; nephew, Ed and Vickie Sumner; nieces, Maybelle R. and Winston McNeil, Diane and Ty Trenor; numerous cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Sam McCracken and Mr. Stephen Jayne officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted however, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O.
