Bishop, James Vander
On Sunday, December 17th, 2023, after a fun-filled day with his family in Dollywood, TN, my Superman James Vander (Jimmy) Bishop, age 63, passed away suddenly.
To his son Jason, he was “pops”, Deven and Tyler’s “grandpa”, and Maddy’s “pop-pop” and special brother Matt Sirk. He had four brothers, Larry (Linda) Childress, Oden (Pat) and Mike (Donna), Colen (Amanda) Bishop.
Jimmy had numerous nieces and nephews who loved him. Two of which were able to share his love of amusement parks through to the end. Teresa (Candy) and Roger Jenkins, Jr.
For 23 years, we shared Jimmy with his second family, The Town of Blacksburg. He was #1 knuckle boom operator for the town.
A funeral service is scheduled for 4-6 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at McCoy Funeral Home at 150 Country Club Dr SW in Blacksburg, VA.
To honor Jimmy, please wear a T-shirt of your favorite Superhero, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Beatles, or Racing team. Please bring your favorite story or memory of Jimmy to share with others who will forever hold this wonderful man in their heart. `
And in the words of Sirius Black…”But know this; the ones that love us never really leave us.”

Our condolences to Teresa & James’ Brother Oden & the whole Bishop Family. I have known the family since childhood. The Bishop family were / are friendly, kind and hardworking. Traits that I respect. James was very proud of his employment with the town of Blacksburg, and proud of his part in keeping Blacksburg looking and working well. I think of James & Teresa every time I pass their house on Mud Pike. We will be praying for the comfort of the family. RIP sir,
