Ida Mae Lucas Bishop, of Riner, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2018, at the age of 94. She passed peacefully, from the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. She was a daughter of the late Montie Jackson Lucas and Margie Lester Lucas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Kyle Newton Bishop, brothers Randolph, Ralph, and Raymond Lucas, and sisters Irene Thompson and Virginia Altizer.

A true matriarch, she enjoyed raising and watching her family grow, and will be remembered by many as “MaMae.” She attended Sidney United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted member for over 60 years. For many years she taught Sunday School, helped with The Lord’s Acre Sale and was an active member of the The United Methodist Women.

She worked for many years in the cafeterias of the Auburn Schools. While she was able, she loved attending Auburn High School ball games where she could always be seen keeping “her stats.” She was an outstanding cook and was well known for her delicious pound cakes.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Richard Kyle Bishop and wife Ita, her daughter, Marjorie Morgan and husband Ron, granddaughter Melissa Anderson and husband Daryl, granddaughter Michelle Underwood and husband Brian, grandson K.J. Bishop and wife Annette, granddaughter Marlo Dean and husband Jeff, granddaughter Jenny Altizer and husband Eric, grandson Jeremy West and wife Eliza, granddaughter Julie Craft and husband Robert, step granddaughter, Brandy Fizzano and husband Kevin, and step granddaughter Jamie Finley and husband Josh. She had 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Imogene Teel, her sister Jackie Shelton and husband Bob, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank MaMae’s loving caregivers, Stephanie Miles and Charlotte Vest, as well as Colleen Light, Ashley McPherson, and Tammy Hall of Good Samaritan Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 23rd from 1-3 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. following the hours of visitation, officiated by pastors Mark Miller and Danny Nettleton. The burial service will be on Wednesday, December 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Sidney United Methodist Church in Riner.
