Hulah Lloyd Bentley died on October 16, 2013, in Peoria, Ariz., after a full and satisfying life of over 103 years. Interment was at Sun City Memorial Park in Sun City, Ariz.

Hulah was born January 24, 1910, in Opelousas, La., to William Johnson Loyd and Mary Fudge Loyd, and came to Dublin as a small child after the death of her mother. There she was reared by her aunt and uncle, Henry R. and Kate Fudge Cecil, and graduated from Dublin High School, where she was President of her class all four years and Captain of the girls’ basketball team. In her youth, Hulah enjoyed both roller and ice skating and remained an avid sports fan throughout life. Prior to her marriage, she did some substitute teaching and worked in her Uncle Henry’s drug store.

Hulah was married twice, first to John Jay Greever, the father of her only child, and then to George H. Bentley. Beginning in 1941, for a period of 31 years, Mr. Bentley’s position with American Electric Power Company necessitated frequent changes of residence, and George and Hulah lived in various cities in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

At times she sang in her church’s choir, did Red Cross work, was active in community theater, and held offices in various Newcomer’s Clubs. In 1972, Hulah and George retired to Sun City, Ariz., where they continued to enjoy traveling and photography. Their travels included trips to Japan, Scandinavia, Southeast Asia, Mexico, Panama, much of Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and 47 other states. Both held offices in the Sun City Photo Club.

A few years after George’s death, Hulah became a resident of the Forum at Desert Harbor, a retirement complex in Peoria, Ariz. There she continued to play bridge and enjoy an active life well past her 103rd birthday.

Mrs. Bentley was survived by her son, Dr. John Greever, of Seattle; grandchildren, Catherine Brewer, of Riverside, Calif., Richard Greever, of Keaau, Hawaii, and Cynthia Walker, of Milpitas, Calif.; and seven great-grandchildren, Richard Brewer, Joseph Brewer, Christina Greever, Amy Greever, Jessica Walker, Rachel Walker, and Stephanie Walker.
