Bennett, James M.

James M. “Jim” Bennett, age 55, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born February 26, 1968, in Princeton, WV, he was the son of Carl Bennett of Louisa, VA, and the late Mary Elizabeth Tomlinson.

Jim worked as a Correctional Officer for the VA Department of Corrections. He also enjoyed mowing numerous yards for friends in the area. He never met a stranger and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Above all, he loved his family deeply. Even in his last moments, he made sure to let his wife, children, and grandchildren know how much he loved them and the Lord.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a cousin, Peggy Vass. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Jennifer Harvey Bennett; one son, Cory Bennett of Peterstown, WV; two daughters, Ashley Cylke and husband David of Pembroke, VA, and Caitlin Bennett of Peterstown, WV; five grandchildren, Silas, Waylon, and Hunter Gore, Meredith Bennett, and Eli Danovich; one sister, Edwina Simms of Lewisburg, WV; niece, Paula Blazer and husband Tommy of Point Pleasant, WV; aunt, Margaret Vass; uncle, Butch Vass; special friends, John Wiley of Roanoke, VA, Joe Brown and Joe Riggins, both of Peterstown, WV; and Troy and Joyce Jenkins of Bluefield, WV; his cat, Chloe; numerous cousins whom he loved; and all of his fellow officers at the VA Department of Corrections.
