Grant Belcher, 93, of Floyd, Va, met his heavenly father on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Montgomery Regional Hospital with family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Ala Belcher and all his siblings, Zama Weeks, C.B. Belcher, Deloris Belcher, Geneva Ratliff, Freeman Belcher, Goldie Hill, and Ruth Reed.
Loved by all who knew him, he was a humble devoted Christian who cared and loved completely. He was full of kindness, compassion, and concern for all he knew and never complained about whatever life presented him. Helping others was a trait of his that will always be remembered by his many friends and neighbors.
A nature lover, he saw beauty in all of God’s creation and was the happiest being outside.
His family was so important to him and loved to be in the midst of every family event. He was a devoted husband, wonderful Daddy, and the best “Ga-Ga” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 70 years, Madalene Belcher; his daughter, Narlene Dulaney of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Booie and Sonya DeHart of Christiansburg, and Travis Dulaney of Florida; Great Grandchildren Justin and Dylan Dulaney of Florida, Tanner , Skyler, and Bryce DeHart of Christiansburg; also his devoted nieces and nephews, Doug and Bobbie Belcher of Florida, Phil and Shelva Hoffman of Chesapeake, Norma Sue Hill and Charles and Betty Hill of Alexandria, Mack and Helen Belcher of Dublin, Donald and Jean Belcher and Junior and Frances Poff, all of Floyd.
The services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Floyd where he has been a member for 70 years, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. Conducting the service are Pastors Jimmy Cannaday, Hebron Quesenberry and Roy Turpin. Family visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Maberry Funeral Home.
