James David Beckner, Sr. – age 87 of Dublin went home to the Lord on Friday, December 24, 2010. He spent his last days at Highland Ridge Nursing Home surrounded by his friends and family.

Born December 16, 1923 in Pembroke, Virginia he was the son of the late Howard & Claudie Beckner and a number of brothers and sisters also preceded him in death. He was a loving husband, father and friend. He supported his family for many years as a truck driver for Burlington Industries. He always enjoyed laughing and would even stay up with the nurses at Highland Ridge Nursing Home just to keep them company. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He served during World War II where he received a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his Wife of 63 years- Elizabeth Nester Beckner – Dublin, Children- J.D. Beckner – Roanoke, Robert Beckner – Snowville, Danny Beckner – Roanoke, Mary & husband, Roger Akers – Dublin, Grandchildren- Mary Ann Bryson & husband, Jeremiah Bryson; Penny Kay Lytton & husband, John Lytton; Ryan Akers & wife, Ashley Akers, David Beckner & wife, Tracey Beckner; Christopher Beckner & wife, Connie Beckner; Robbie Gilbert & wife, Amy Gilbert, and Kellie Beckner. Great Grandchildren- Alex, AJ and Allie Bryson, Isabelle Lytton, Jackson Akers, Hunter and Tanner Gilbert and Lindsey Beckner. Sister- Leathie Semones – NC.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with the Minister Ernie Depew officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service Tuesday at Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski.
