Beamer, Larry Raymond

Larry Raymond Beamer, 78, of Dublin, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Galax, Virginia to Lonnie and Clara Beamer and attended Virginia Tech where he received a BS in Industrial Engineering.

Larry enjoyed a long career at Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was an active member of the Dublin Lions Club and Dublin United Methodist Church. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow award from the Lions Clubs International Foundation for dedicated humanitarian services. He enjoyed telling stories, practical jokes and Virginia Tech football.

Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonna; daughters, Terri Shelor of Dublin and Melissa Lawson of Richmond; sons-in-law, Don Shelor and Barry Lawson; grandchildren, Beth and Logan Shelor; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Marilee Beamer of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Wayne and Janie Smith, and Bobby and Dianna Bowers of Galax, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Martha Davis and Larry Fox who provided their loving care to Larry for many years, the Wednesday Bible Study group who met in Larry’s home for more than 20 years, the Dublin Lions Club who provided support during the years following his stroke and the loyal RAAP crew who visited regularly.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10th at Dublin United Methodist Church with funeral services on Wednesday, May 11 at 11 am. Larry will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dublin United Methodist Church.
