Beamer, Imogene Matthews
Imogene Matthews Beamer, 98, of Salem, Va., passed away Monday, November 9, 2009. She was born September 20, 1911, in Carroll County, Va., daughter of the late Alvin and Lilly Groseclose Matthews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Painter Beamer.
Mrs. Beamer graduated from Radford State Teachers College and taught school in a one room school house for several years. She also worked for Appalachian Power and for Dr. Perry Hyde and Pulaski Drugs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Salem where she served in the Wednesday prayer group and the UMW, Circle 10. She was First Matron of Pulaski Chapter 113, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Kathy Beamer; granddaughter, Julie Star Oberhausen and her husband, Chad; great-grandson, Ethan Oberhausen; special family and friends, Margaret Martin, Lorene Beamer, Jerri Lawrence and Stella Stafford; and special feline companion, Lacy.
Funeral Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Dr. Michael Houff officiating. Interment will be private at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem.
