Barnett, Homer Edward

Homer Edward Barnett, age 90, of Blacksburg died, Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home. He was born in Blacksburg, Virginia on August 16, 1932, to the late Richard and India Perkins Barnett. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Shaver Barnett, his second wife Betty Jo Barnett, his brothers and sisters-in-laws Walter (Elise), Luther (Dorothy), Eugene; sisters and brothers-in-law Elenora (Luther) Barnett, Julie (Don) Millen, Francis (Luther) Hassele, Lorraine (AC) Mccoy; sister-in-law Bessie Barnett.

He was a former member of the Blacksburg Fire Department. His favorite hobbies were playing music, hunting, and working in his yard.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Mike Dowdy of Pembroke; three stepchildren Steve (Debbie) Shaver of Myrtle Beach, Jeff Shaver, and David Shaver; sister Lois Ramsey of Blacksburg; brother Frank Barnett of Camden, NC; sister-in-law Sandy Barnett; Granddaughter Rachel Shaver of New York; niece Judy (Buddy) Cooper; a very special nephew Randy (Leigh) of Christiansburg and 23 nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, April 28, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend John Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Friday, April 28, 2023. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
