Barker, Charles Elwood

Charles Elwood Barker, 73, of Blacksburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood Barker & Ruby Barker; wife, Imogene Barker; and half-brother, Rascal Allen Barker.

He is survived b y his step-son, David Lawrence; sister-in-law, Doris Stafford; as well as many friends he made along his journey.

Charlie was a lifelong resident of Shawsville and the surrounding areas located in Montgomery County. He labored in local industries – worked with trucks and heavy equipment, on farms, and as grounds keeper at Jefferson Apartments. Charlie had an infectious grin and loved his ice cream. Seems like everyone who met him wanted to adopt him. “He was a good man.”

Charlie was very grateful to the staff at Lewis Gale Montgomery in ICU and the second floor staff for their care and attention. He also expressed his gratitude for the staff at Heritage Hall Rehab.

A Graveside Service was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the Shawsville Congregational Holiness Church.
