Ballengee, Carrison Edwin

Carrison Edwin Ballengee, age 88, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Country View Assisted Living. Born July 1, 1933, in Fort Springs, WV, he was the son of the late C.C. “Kit” and Neva Lowe Ballengee.

Edwin was a member of Glen Lyn Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He received an agricultural education degree from West Virginia University and taught vo-ag at Peterstown High School. Additionally, he served as assistant principal and coached many sports. Edwin retired from Monroe County Schools after 32 years of service. He was a lifelong farmer, raising cattle on the family farm and having an expansive knowledge of animals and farm operations.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Johnson. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Jo Ballengee. Two sons, David Ballengee and wife Patty of Peterstown, WV, and Steve Ballengee and wife Theresa of Peterstown, WV; two grandsons, Matthew Ballengee and wife Kelly, and John Ballengee and wife Lily; three granddaughters, Sarah Ballard and husband Brian, Cortney Menchini and husband Chris, and Lara Thompson and husband Braxton; eight great-grandchildren; and family friend, Mack Barber.

Private funeral services will be held with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow at the Red Sulphur Springs Community Church Cemetery in Red Sulphur Springs, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Sports of Monroe Foundation at 280 Walnut Ridge Road, Peterstown, WV 24963.
