On Tuesday, September 22, 2020 Marion Clinton Ballard of Narrows, VA decided it was time to travel to another playing field. One in which Covid-19 wouldn’t be screwing up his beloved Green Wave Football and his VT Hokies fall tailgating traditions. A place where green and gold, maroon and orange are the dominate colors.

Marion was born on August 18, 1952, to Clinton and Josephine Ballard. He graduated from Narrows High School, attended ETSU, and graduated from New River Community College, with a degree in Instrumentation. Prior to retiring he spent his adult working career inside the Celanese Plant, and later, took a position with the Giles County PSA Water Plant.

He is survived by the love of his life, Jackie, his daughter, Amy Smith and husband Randy, son, Brian Ballard and wife Sarah, grandchildren, Jacob (Carley), Hunter, Carson, Chase and Grace, sister, Pat Ballard, our cherished family friend, Coreen Mett, brothers in law, Michael (Gladys) Hyatt, Paul David (Sue) Hyatt, sister in law, Ann (Jerry) Cerreta. Along with many close family members, friends, and community members.

Marion loved his family with all his heart and soul, and was never without a laugh, a joke, or a funny story to share. His family is truly blessed with a treasure chest full of happy, funny, wonderful memories.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Home in Narrows from 2 – 5pm. The family request you come prepared to share your fondest and funniest memories. Per Marion’s request, no formal service will be held.

Marion has requested for those that wish to do so, may make donations in his memory, to the Narrows High School Athletic Foundation or the Narrows High School Hall of Fame. We will be observing Covid-19 precautions.
