Bales, Mary Snidow

Mary Snidow Bales, 91, of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 26, 2013, at her home. She was born August 28, 1922, in Pembroke, and was a daughter of the late Grover Glenn and Margaret Ann Givens Snidow. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, James Arthur Bales; one brother, Frederick Lee Snidow; and one sister, Anna Katherine Campbell. Mary was a longtime active member of Christ Episcopal Church. She loved working in her flower gardens and received great joy in serving on the Alter Guild, ECW, and sharing recipes and food with family and friends. She is survived by one son, James Glenn Bales and wife, Jennifer Speight Bales, of Lynchburg , one daughter, Bonnie Lee Bales Fairbrother and husband, Matthew, of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Gertrude Williams and Roma and husband, Dale Collins, of Pembroke; and two brothers-in-law, Ivan G. Bales, of Pearisburg, and Graham C. Bales, of Lindside , W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Sarah Morris officiating and burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family expresses profound gratitude to primary caregiver, Jessica Frazier, for her loving care of our mother.
