bales_jean_dunnJean Dunn Bales, of Pearisburg, Va., passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bales was born on January 4, 1923, in Red Sulphur Springs, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Harry Richard Dunn and Beulah Martin Dunn. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl D. Dunn and Bobby Dunn; and one son-inlaw, Edwin (Cotton) Martin. Mrs. Bales was a retired employee of the Celanese Corporation in Narrows and also work as a Sales Clerk and Bookkeeper at the Ingram Furniture Store in Pearisburg for over 50 years and was a special friend and caregiver to Edith Ingram of Riverview Nursing Home. She was a member of the Red Sulphur Springs Methodist Church and in the last few years attended the Providence Methodist Church in Wilburn Valley. She dearly cherished her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and her little four legged friend, Molly. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Tiny) B. Martin, of Pearisburg; four sisters, Frances Bales, of Peterstown, W.Va., Joan White, of Red Jacket, W.Va., Trixie Martin and husband, Frankie, of Ballard, W.Va., and Louise Davis, of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Harry R. Dunn Jr. and wife, Bettie, of Nashville, Tenn., Walter J. Dunn and wife, Betty, of Smith Mountain Lake, and James H. (Sonny) Dunn and wife, Betty, of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Eddie Martin and wife, Janet, and Bryan Johnson and wife, Shelley; two stepgrandchildren, Brittany Canterbury and fiance, Jeffery Ratcliffe, and Taylor Canterbury; and four great-grandchildren, Skyler Martin, Haley Johnson, Kylie Johnson and Rylie Johnson. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Birchlawn Abbey with the Rev. Gary Poff, the Rev. Ted Anders and Trixie Martin officiating. There will be a private family viewing at the Givens Funeral Home before the service.
