Baker, Judith Jones

Judith Jones Baker passed away on December 8th, 2022 at 72 years of age. Judi, as she was known to friends and family, was born on June 28th, 1950 to mother Edith Jones and father Elliott Jones. She grew up in the coastal area of Princess Anne County, Virginia with her parents, older sister and younger brother.

She attended Ferrum College where she met her future husband Edward (Eddie) Baker and she earned her Associate’s degree. She completed her bachelor’s degree in English at Radford University and later, a Master Gardener certification through Virginia Tech.

Eddie and Judi settled in Blacksburg, Virginia and raised their family. Judi was known as an accomplished writer, master gardener, creative quilter/seamstress and equine (dressage) enthusiast. Her reserved manner was often offset by an entertaining, wry sense of humor to those who knew her. She was a loving mom and adoring, supportive partner to Eddie. She was most recently living her dream building her horse boarding business on the family farm in Riner, Virginia.

Judith was predeceased by her mother Edith, and father Elliott Jones, her father-in-law Vernon Baker as well as her daughter Alison Baker. Judith is survived her loving family: her husband of fifty years Eddie Baker, her daughter Diane Baker, her son Alan Baker and his wife Audrey, and her daughter Michelle Hall and her husband Seth, of Blacksburg, VA. She is also survived by her sister Josephine Jones and her brother John Jones of Virginia Beach, Virginia and by her mother-in-law, Virginia Baker of Blacksburg, Virginia as well as extended family.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 16th, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m., at McCoy Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the McCoy Chapel. Masking is encouraged.
