Gladys Edna Baker, 88, of Narrows, Va., passed away Tuesday night, October 14, 2008 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, W.Va.

Mrs. Baker was born on May 30, 1920 in Richwood, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Joseph Robert Baker and Nannie Whitt Baker. Besides her parent, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ellis Baker and two sisters, Sadie Baker and Millie Du Pre.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Church of Christ in Pearisburg, Va. and was a retired employee of the Celanese Plant with over 40 years of service.

She is survived by six sisters, Goldie Gabbert of Frankford, W.Va., Shirley Culp of Renick, W.Va., Hazel and husband Rick Crawford of Shady Spring, W.Va., Betty Jo Baker of Cocoa, Fla., Dreama Baker and husband David Polk of Daniels, W.Va., Patricia and husband John Medding of Kenova, W.Va.; four brothers, George and wife Aleda Baker of Coppers Cove, Texas, Alfred Baker of Shady Spring, W.Va., Walter and wife Dee Baker of Renick, W.Va., and Arnold Baker of Piney View, W.Va.; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, Va. with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Friday from 1 – 2 p.m. before the service.
