bain_edna_alsdorfEdna Alsdorf Bain, 84, of Radford, born February 11, 1925 in Highland Falls, New York peacefully departed this life with her son and daughter by her side on Saturday, January 2, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Grace Wood Alsdorf and her husband, Thomas N. Bain, four sisters, Dolly A. Baisley, Ethel A. Stephan, Florence A. Campbell, Francis Alsdorf, two brothers, Tommy Alsdorf and Jesse Alsdorf. She was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of P.E.O. Club both in Radford. She was a Volunteer for St. Albans, American Red Cross, Glencoe Museum, Radford Hospital and the Central Methodist Church. Edna was an avid Bridge player and will be greatly missed by friends and her family. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jeannie Bain, of Christiansburg; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Stan Burke, of Blacksburg; four grandchildren and spouses Tommy Bain and Jen, Carrie Mateljan and Rykk, Amy Diehl and Greg, and Jim Burke; three great-grandchildren, Adam, Lindsey and Connor; two sisters and four brothers-in-law, Jeanette and Dave Chapman, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Dorothy and Joseph Morano, of Pomona, N.Y.; Maurice Stephan, of Ijamsville, Md.; William Baisley, of Stony Point, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Edna’s caregivers and friends for their help and thoughts. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Central United Methodist Church in Radford with the Rev. Ric Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
