Bailey Sr., Richard Lee

Richard Lee Bailey Sr., 80, of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennie and Bessie Bailey; brother, Eugene Bailey; and sister, Diana Shepherd.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol Bailey; son, Richard Lee Bailey II and wife Callie; daughter, Elaine Bailey Gall and husband Dean; grandchildren, Evan Gall, Tyler Gall and wife Kate, Carter Bailey, and Lacy Bailey; sister, Brenda McQuerrey and husband Jim; brothers-in-law, Donnie Almond and wife Kitty, Leon Shiver, and Banks Shepherd; sisters-in-law, Carol Ann Almond, Loretha Almond, Jeraldine Almond; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Richard was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps and was recently recognized with his family for their extensive military service with a bridge in their honor, the “Almond Brothers and Family Veterans Bridge” in Raleigh County, WV.

Richard had many special friends, including a number who loved him like a father. The family would like to thank special neighbors Larry and Debbie Lawrence, Greg and Vicki Branscome, Dan and Nancy Wohlford, and the Hedrick family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.
