Averhart, Debra Diane

Debra “Debbie” Diane Averhart, 68, of Blacksburg, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Bennie Franklin Averhart and Eileen Keffer Averhart.

Debra was born in Christiansburg, Virginia, on August 15, 1952. She was a 1970 graduate of Blacksburg High School and attended Virginia Tech. She was retired after working 41 years at the Newman Library at Virginia Tech. She loved the Virginia Tech Hokies, New York Yankees, Coca-Cola, jigsaw puzzles, crafting, flea markets, antique stores, and Welsh Corgis. She was an active member of Level Green Christian Church.

She is survived by her brother Roger W. Averhart of Blacksburg; her sister Dreama A. Dunford of Dublin; her nieces, Amy (Mark) Crouch of Bedford and Audra (Troy) Bowyer of Forest; her great-nephew Connor Bowyer of Forest; her great-nieces Mariah Bowyer of Forest and Stephanie Crouch of Bedford; several cousins; and Ziva Davida her Welsh Corgi.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, officiated by Duane Wente. Burial will follow at the Level Green Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the service hour. Memorials may be made to the sound system fund at Level Green Christian Church, 3388 Cumberland Gap Rd., Newport, VA 24128.
