veterans1Hubert Bullock Averette, 91, of Christiansburg, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke. Hubert was born in Granville County, N.C., to the late Charlie B. and Clara Floyd Averette. He was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church for over 50 years; retired after 32 years from the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Services and served overseas in the Armed Forces during World War II, 103rd Infantry Division. Hubert was preceded in death by his late wife of 49 years, Catherine Conner Averette; and five siblings. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, C. Samuel Averette and India M. Averette; three grandchildren, Tara Shelor, of Christiansburg, Joshua Averette, of Chesterfield, and Tiffany Averette, of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Andrew Carney, Brenden Carney and Riley Averette; and one brother, Louis Everette, of Creedmoor, N.C. The family will be receiving guests at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, on Monday, October 8, 2012, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., followed by the funeral services in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. A. Timothy Hight. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
