Austin, Ruth Alderman

Ruth A. Austin, born on November 27, 1927, was called to her heavenly home on December 30, 2014. “Granny” was very dedicated to her family. She had an unconditional love for each and every one of us. She enjoyed cooking big meals for her family and having us all together. She always made us laugh, was a very happy-go-lucky person who was also a lover of “old” country music, and we would often hear her sing or whistle to her favorite songs.

“Granny” was employed at Burlington Mills for many years and then retired as a side-seamer from Kenrose/Russell Apparel where she made many friends. After retiring, she spent her time with “Pawpaw” in the garden, canning, crocheting, and watching NASCAR. She loved traveling to Floyd, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and spending time with her siblings. She also enjoyed yard-selling, shopping, and living life to the fullest.

She will forever be in our hearts and is now singing with the Angels.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph S. and Vada Conner Alderman; ten siblings; her loving husband, John W. (Bill) Austin; and a son, Roger D. Austin.
