Atkinson, Helen Rutrough

Helen Rutrough Atkinson, 91, of Radford, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Radford Nursing and Rehab after a long battle of suffering and pain. She retired from the Radford Childcare Center after many years and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Radford for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Albert and Bertha Whitenack Rutrough; two brothers, William Howard Rutrough and Oscar Mitchell Rutrough; grandson, Nathan Ezra Atkinson; and two sisters, Virginia Reece and June Mowles. She is survived by her husband of 57 happy years, Maurice (Moose) Atkinson; son, Gary Atkinson, of Cambria; granddaughter, Mariah Atkinson, of Blacksburg; two sisters, Aldine Reed, of Bent Mountain and Marjorie Evans, of Glen Allen; brother, Lewis Rutrough of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Radford with the Rev. Gina Rhea and Alice Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Cemetery in Alleghany Springs. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
