Steve Atkins, 68, gained his heavenly wings on Monday May 8, 2023 and was carried to heaven by our Lord and Savior. Steve was born April 18, 1955 to the late Arthur A. Atkins Jr. and Hazel Williams Atkins in Pearisburg, VA.

Steve graduated from Giles High School in 1973 and attended New River Community College. He was a lifetime member of the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department with 45 years of service. He was an active member of Castle Rock Masonic Lodge #334 in Pembroke with 46 years of service. He worked at Celanese for 40+ years. He attended Pembroke Christian Church faithfully.

Steve was the definition of “he’d do anything for anybody”. His passion was helping people and he did that in so many ways. Whether it was bringing breakfast to his friends or making sure their animals were fed, you could always count on Steve to be there. He loved his family and spent his favorite days in the woods with his son or at the ball fields watching his grandchildren. He was an avid Turkey hunter and was one of the best. If you had the pleasure of knowing Steve, you were blessed. He never met a stranger. He was one of a kind and a bright light to so many.

Steve was the world’s greatest father, papaw, brother, uncle and great uncle. Left to cherish his memory is his loving Son Zachary Atkins and his wife Morgan and their 4 children, Witten, Maven, Leighton and Kerrigan, whom he loved so dearly, his special nephew TJ Atkins, Savanah Wilson and their daughter Ava Atkins and his loving sister Debbie Atkins. He is also survived by many cousins and hundreds of friends whom he cared for so deeply.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Pembroke Christian Church with Pastor Reggie Britts officiating. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Memorial Gardens in Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends at Kendall Funeral Home on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. To conclude the visitation time, the Castle Rock Masonic Lodge’s ceremony will be held.
