Shirley Louise Atkins, 79, of Doe Creek, Pembroke, VA, and formerly of Fredericksburg, departed this life Friday morning, March 15, 2019 in the care of Heritage Hall Health Care in Rich Creek, VA.

Born in Eggleston, VA on August 24, 1939, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Lucille Lafon Albert. She had been employed as a bus driver for the Fredericksburg School System, and was a member of the Rich Creek United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband Clyde J. Atkins (married June 1956 until his death June 2016), brothers J B Albert and Jimmy Albert, and sister Bonnie Grove.

She leaves to celebrate her memory her five sons and daughters-in-law Ron and Lisa Atkins of Pembroke, Richard and Billeye Atkins of Fredericksburg, Nicholas Atkins of Richmond, Dennis Atkins of Pearisburg, and Dale and Dierdre Atkins of Pearisburg; her sister Betty Tarman of Pennsylvania; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in the Rich Creek United Methodist Church, Rich Creek, VA with Pastors Aubrey Whitlow and Buddy Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, VA Monday evening, March 18, 2019 from 6 until 8 pm.
