Atkins, Ruth Elizabeth

Ruth Elizabeth Atkins, 89, of Hiwassee, Va., died late Saturday night, February 28, 2009, in the Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Dublin. She was born in Patrick Country, Va., on October 23, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Nathan King and Alice Goins King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Atkins; and a daughter, Carol Kay Atkins Jones.

She attended the Hiwassee Brethren Church. She was a retired employee of the Red Carpet Inn, Pulaski.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Joy Ann and Bob Scott, of Salem, Bertha and A.J. Pentecost, of Salem, and Janie Gregory, of Salem; sons and daughters-in-law, Raven and Rachel Atkins, of Atkins, Tenn., Alvin Atkins, of North Carolina, and Gilbert and Linda Atkins, of Hiwassee; son-in-law, William Cecil Jones, of Pulaski; sister, Eva Kochubla, of High Point, N.C.; sister-in-law, Ruby King, of Mt. Airy, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and one greatgreatgrandchild.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with the Rev. Granville Bishop officiating. Visiting will be Monday evening from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
