Hazel Marie Atkins, 88, of Virginia Avenue in Hoges Chapel near Pembroke departed this life peacefully at her home Wednesday morning, September 12, 2007 after a long illness.

Born in Hoges Chapel on June 19, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Crozier C. and Minnie Price Williams. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in Hoges Chapel.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. Atkins, Jr.; her brothers, Minor, Strother, Ken, and Ray Williams; and her sisters, Ora Smith, Ruby Smith, Mary Meredith, and Margaret Ann Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Steve Atkins of Hoges Chapel; a daughter, Debbie Atkins of Hoges Chapel; grandsons, T.J. Atkins and Zachary Atkins; a sister, Eloise W. McGuire of Hoges Chapel; a sister-in-law, Preston M. Williams of Pembroke; and her caregiver and sons, Tina Steenken, D.J. and R.J.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 2 p.m. in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
