Betty Jane Kessler Atkins, 88, of Maybrook, VA departed this life sliding into home plate on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Betty passed away at her home in Maybrook and in the care of Hospice and her loving family.

Born on August 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Kessler and Grace Kanode Hughes. Betty was a graduate of the Pembroke High School Corn cutters Class of 1950. She was a member of faith at Lucas Memorial Christian Church. She was an avid sports fan having played for the Pembroke Rebelettes and coaching ladies softball for 30 years in the Pembroke area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 51 years, Curtis Lee Atkins, and her son Timothy Lee Atkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory; sons, Curtis Glen Atkins and his wife Loretta, Joseph Anthony Atkins and wife Teanessa; a daughter, Sheryl Atkins Williams and husband Dale all of Pembroke, VA. She will also be remembered by grandchildren, Michael Atkins, Anthony Atkins, and Amanda Atkins; four great grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great grandchild.

A Special Thanks is extended by her family to all of the compassionate caregivers at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospice.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel 605 Snidow Street Pembroke, Virginia with Pastors Shahn Wilburn and Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Atkins Family Cemetery in Newport, VA. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
