Charles Vernon Asbury, age 81, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA. Born July 4, 1938, in Rift, WV, he was the son of the late William Charles and Kathrine Rowe Asbury.

Charles was a member of the Appalachian Christian Center, the WV Appaloosa Association, and a founding member of the Monroe County Coon Hunter’s Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as the operations manager at Mercer Mall. His family was everything to him. Children and animals gravitated to him. He was adored by everyone who knew him. He had a twinkle in his eye and you never knew what adventures might happen when you spent time with him. Alzheimer’s may have robbed him of his memories and time with his family in the last years of his life, but the family remembers. The world is a little darker today without Charles in it, but Heaven is a little brighter because he is there now.

Those left to cherish Charles’ memory include his loving wife of 48 years, Betty Joe Worth Asbury; two sons, Charles Anthony Asbury and wife Melissa, and David Matthew Asbury and wife Patty; one daughter, Angela Kay Asbury; three brothers, Jerry, Dexter, and Albert; grandchildren, Michelle and husband Nathaniel, Alyssa and husband Ryan, Joanetta and fience Raul, Lilly, Alex, Nick, Evie, and Zach; and great grandchildren, Lyle and Mavrick.

In keeping with his wishes, Charles will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online guestbook can be signed or condolences may be sent to the family at www.broyles-shrewsbury.com. Arrangements by Broyles-Shrewsbury, Peterstown, WV.
