Archer Jr., Garland Cecil

Garland Cecil Archer Jr., 84, of Draper, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, February 9, 2012. He was born September 16, 1927, in Wythe County, the son of the late Garland Cecil Sr. and Emma Reynolds Archer. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Randolph Jerome Archer; and a sister, Virginia Archer Mabe.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Smith Archer, of Draper; three daughters, Diane Archer Gannaway and Bill, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Amy Archer, of Pulaski, Marcia Archer Tyler and Mark, of Shawsville; stepdaughter, Anita Kirby-Smith, of Max Meadows; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Richard Archer, Elmo Archer, Melvin Archer, all of Max Meadows.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Draper Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Willie Overton officiating. Interment will follow in Archer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the church.
