Betty Anne Bishop Apperson, age 60, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Pulaski, Va., died Saturday January 21, 2006 in Aiken Regional Medical Center. Born in Radford, she was the daughter of Edrie Mae Barton Bishop and the late Roy Thomas Bishop.

She was a professional, gifted and talented educator and a member of the First Christian Church in Aiken, S.C.

She is survived by her husband Courtney E. Apperson, Jr. of Aiken; her mother, Edrie Mae Barton Bishop of Pulaski; two daughters, Lorie Ann Apperson Gourdin and son-in-law, Peter P. Gourdin, III of Seneca, S.C., Cara Joy Apperson-Rogers of Aiken; two sisters and brother-in-law, Phyllis Elaine Bishop of Pulaski, Frances Eugenia Crigger and her husband J.W. of Pulaski; grandchildren, Lyric Rebekah Rogers, Dezmond Moss Rogers, Larkyn Anne Rogers, Ian Christopher Gourdin, Jacob Aubrey Gourdin; mother-in-law, Helen Virginia Thacker Apperson of Aiken; sister-in-law, Carolyn Apperson-Hansen of Shaker Heights, Ohio; niece, Kirsten Elizabeth Anne Hansen; nephew, Thomas Matthew Crigger; and great niece, Alexia Dawn Crigger.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Aiken’s First Baptist Church with the Dr. Fred Andrea III, and the Rev. Don Morris officiating. Visitation will be held immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held Wednesday January 25, 2006 at 2 p.m. in Thorn Spring Cemetery in Pulaski County, Va. with the Rev. Randy Winn and Dr. Larry W. Bishop officiating.

The family will receive family and friends Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Pulaski from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Cumbee Center, P.O.
