Kathern Virginia Nolen Anthony, left this world on Saturday, April 3, 2021 to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Kathern was born in 1932 in Montgomery County to loving parents, Milton Lee Nolen and Bessie Richardson Nolen. Kathern’s paternal grandparents were Eli Akers Nolen and Senora Cannaday Nolen of Floyd County, Virginia; maternal grandparents were John W. and Belle Richardson, also of Floyd County, Virginia.

Kathern graduated as an R.N. in 1952 at the Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing.

Kathern is survived by her husband, Lee S. Anthony Sr.; son, Lee S. Anthony Jr. and wife, Cathy; daughter, Kay Anthony Saul and husband, Rob; grandchildren, Julia and Jared Anthony, his wife, Bethany, and one great- granddaughter, Avery Brooks Anthony. Kathern was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, April Leigh Saul. Kathern was also predeceased by her brother, Eugene Nolen, and sisters, Mary Lee Nolen, and Charslie Nolen Linkous. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

As a wife, mother and grandmother, Kathern was a nurturing, self-sacrificing lady who cared deeply for her family. She created a home where the grandchildren could happily play, or just relax and eat ice cream. In her younger years, Kathern was instrumental in providing support to help ensure the success of the family owned medical physics consulting firm, Physics Associates, LLC (founded by her husband, Lee S. Anthony Sr., Ph.D.)

Kathern loved living in her “county” home at Bennett Springs where she could feed and watch the birds and “Chippy” the chipmunk. Kathern credits her good health in part to frequent hikes up the trail behind her house to the ridgetop; part of this trail she blazed herself. Kathern would gather special shaped rocks on this trail to decorate her “rock garden.”

In celebration of her life, donations may be made to Belmont Christian Church, 1500 Peppers Ferry Road, NW, Christiansburg, VA 24073.

Services will be private.
