Anderson, Ame Garthright

Ame Garthright Anderson, 85, of Henrico, Va., passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Elizabeth Garthright of Richmond.

She is survived by her husband, Stuart Kendall Anderson; sons, Scott K. Anderson and Derek C. Anderson (Jennifer), and daughter, Karen E. Anderson; her ten grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Jack, Tori, Christian and Lizzie Anderson, Kelsey, Miles, Lydia and Jocelyn Anderson, and Oliver and Thomas Howes; sister, Millie Garthright Buchanan; and five nieces and nephews.

Born in Richmond, Ame graduated from Mary Washington College with an English degree. After marrying Ken in 1962, she spent several years in Germany, where Ken was posted in the U.S. Army and where Scott was born. After returning to the States, the family moved to Blacksburg, where they lived and put down roots for forty-eight years.

Ame spent much of her life as a part-time homemaker and librarian, working in Montgomery County Schools and then at the Montgomery–Floyd Regional Library in Blacksburg. She was active in the Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club and the PTA. She loved Christmas and would have enjoyed watching the snow that fell so gently the day she passed away.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Simms Center at Lakewood Senior Living community, where she lived for several years. The family would like to thank the staff on the Health Care wing of Lakewood for their kind and loving attention to Ame over the past four and a half years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army
