ambrose elisabeth philpottElisabeth Grace Philpott Ambrose, 94, of Blacksburg, born March 11, 1917, is now at peace with God. Elisabeth passed away January 21, 2012. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Ambrose. She is survived by her identical twin sister, Mary Bevans, of New York; and Elisabeth’s three children, Joanne Welsch, William Ambrose, Rosanne Robertson, and families. Elisabeth was born and raised in Closter, N.J. and lived for 50+ years in Oradell, N.J. Elisabeth retired from The Bergenfield Public Library, and relocated to Blacksburg, in 1998. Communication with family and friends was of the upmost joy to Elisabeth. Her career in business was an untiring challenge she loved. Elisabeth worked, even at 90 years old, in the campaign development office of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg. She enjoyed her group of “walkers” at the University Mall, the CVS employees, and the many good friends and acquaintances she established in her 14 years in Blacksburg. Elisabeth embraced the community and became a part of it. Our family thanks the many care givers for their patience, time, and loving thoughts and actions which allowed Elisabeth to remain as independent as she wished. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, in the Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed in Elisabeth’s name to Saint Mary’s Debt Reduction Fund , 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
