Mabel Bowyer Altizer, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the age of 90, following a prolonged chronic illness, at Kroontje Health Care Center, Blacksburg, Va.

The daughter of the late Ervin Garfield and Zelie Bowyer of Newport, Va., she was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Predeceased by her husband, Edgar Alden Altizer, they were long time residents of Christiansburg, as well as members of the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her four children, Rodney Alden Altizer, Carlos Wayne Altizer and Rebecca A. Whitlock, all of Christiansburg, Dixie A. Thurman, Wilson, N.C.; a sister, Mary B. Reynolds, Covington, Va.; grandchildren, Greg Whitlock, Derek Altizer, Dana A. Partin, Jocey A. Saunders, all of Christiansburg, Va., Steve Whitlock, Brock Whitlock, Floyd, Va., Bianca Thurman, Roger Zalon Thurman, Jr., Wilson, N.C. and Clay Altizer, of Starkville, Miss.; and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at the graveside in Sunset Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Don Peters.
