Altizer, Hassel Lindwood
Hassel Lindwood Altizer, 96, of Floyd, Va, passed away February 2, 2014. He was a WWII veteran and Corporal of the U.S. Army serving from 1944 until 1946. He served his country during WWII on the Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal.
He was a longtime employee of Imperial Reading, Inc. in Christiansburg, VA. Lindwood was also a lifelong farmer and an avid outdoorsman. Among other things, he enjoyed fishing and fox hunting. Lindwood was a respected member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren and developed countless wonderful friendships within the church. We have all heard of people who have never met a stranger – Lindwood was one of those people.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Clara Routrough Altizer; brother, Davis Altizer; sisters, Dove Crockett and Lillian Kronenburg; grandson, Scott Austin Altizer. wife, Lillie Duncan Altizer; granddaughter-in-law, Anita Agee Altizer; and special friend, Dora Gay Lester.
Surviving to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Rosie Altizer of Floyd; grandson, Glen Altizer; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Hannah Altizer also of Floyd, and niece and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd VA with Rev. Roy Turpin and Rev. Marvin Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Alum Ridge. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Maberry Funeral Home, 367 South Locust Street, Floyd, 540-745-2121.
