Altizer, Gladys Reed

Gladys Reed Altizer, 90, of Riner, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. A long time member of Bible Baptist Church and one of the best southern cooks anywhere, as well as a devoted wife and mother to her three sons whom she loved with all her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lonnie Eddie Altizer; and son, Eddie Altizer. She is survived by her sister, Hazel Godbey; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Olivia Altizer, Emory and Judy Altizer, and Judy Howell Altizer; four grandchildren, Sandy Altizer, Matthew Altizer, Emily Altizer and Zoe Altizer; one step granddaughter, Allie Mills; two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Reese Altizer; and one nephew, Kirk Godbey.

She was a strong, faithful and beloved lady who will be sorely missed and dearly remembered by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice Service for their care of her.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 31, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at Horne Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Dusty Etter and Shake Smith officiating. Interment to follow at Surface Cemetery in Riner.
