Hazel Fralin Altis, 84, of Shawsville, went home to join her loved ones and her Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Willard Altis; son, Larry Altis; daughter, Louise Ogden; grandson, Paul Vaught; granddaughter, Becky Tolbert; and sisters, Gladys Mills and Ethel Greenwood.

She is survived by her children, Douglas Wayne Altis and wife, Roberta, of Dekalb, Mo., Debbie Vaught and husband, Larry, of Pilot, Lori Rodriguez and husband, Jose, of Lynchburg, and Bruce Altis and wife, Lisa, of Shawsville; daughter-in-law, Shirley Altis, of Pulaski; son-in-law, Robert Ogden, of Amherst; grandchildren, Doug Altis and wife, Cheryl, Dawn Christy and husband, Brett, Michael Altis and wife, Lynn, Scott Altis, Melissa Smith and husband, Leon, Wayne Blankenship and wife, Faith, Brian Blankenship and special friend, Amber, Willard Vaught, Cheryl Clark and husband, Milton, LJ Altis and wife, Kerri, Jeanette Crouse and husband, Chris, Travis Ogden and wife, Melissa, Jessica Simpson, Aisha Rodriguez, Nicole Rodriguez, Adam Altis and wife, Andrea, Brandi Rettig and husband, Greg; 45 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Eleanor Futten; many nieces and nephews; special friends; and her special pets who were with her always, Buster and Mitzy.

Hazel was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a woman of strong faith and loved her Lord. Her love of taking care of people spilled over from her home into her job as CNA at McVitty House. Hazel enjoyed flowers, gardening, wildlife, and loved the various pets she had during her lifetime. She was a member of the Senior Saints at Good Shepherd Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 155 Dunlap Drive, Christiansburg, with Pastor Matthew Kirkland and Pastor George Bulson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
