Almond, Billy Owen
Billy Owen Almond, 85, of Blacksburg passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Bill served in the U.S. Navy and was employed as an engineer for IBM for over 40 years. He enjoyed riding a bicycle for many years, and went for his last bike ride just three days before his death.
Bill was born in Roanoke, Virginia to the late James Edward and Agnes Martin Almond. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Edward Almond.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, June Gallimore Almond; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jay Almond, Lynn and wife Jan Almond, all of Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Travis Almond of Blacksburg, Virginia, Chris Almond and wife, Amanda of Portsmouth, Virginia; and one great granddaughter, Shelby Harper Almond.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
