Alley, Sr., Everett R.
Everett R. Alley, Sr. passed away August 11, 2007. Everett was born on May 13, 1910 in Pulaski, and was the son of the late Sarah Annie Poole Alley and Charles Whittington Alley.
He was a retired employee of Dobson Hosiery Mill which later bacame Sadler Hosiery Mill where he served as Superintendent for 55 years, and was a veteran of WW II having served in the United States Army.
He was a long-time member of the First Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Board Chair, taught Men’s Bible Clas, was the chair of the Evangelism Department, was a lay minister for the church, and was honored with the Elder Emeritus Award June 29, 1997.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by by his wife, Elsie Mae Roop Alley, a sister; Mrs. N.T. "Ester" Selvey, a brother, Charles L. Alley, a son, Everett Richard Alley, Jr. and a daughter, Doris Cowan, a grandaughter, Shelia Cowan Byrd and a grandson, James Cowan.
He is survived by two brothers; Robert Aley of Pulaski, and Dr. Alvin Douglas Alley of Opelika, AL. One sister; Mrs. Howard "Aline" Webber of St. Petersburg, FL, two grandsons, Alan G. Cowan and his wife Frances of Dublin, and Timothy (T.C) Cowan and his wife Hazel Fitzgerald of Pulaski. Also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday August 14, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Randy Winn officiating. Interment will be private. Visiting will be Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church "New Building Fund" 524 N. Jefferson Avenue Pulaski, Va. 24301.
