Marion Kuebler Allen, 90, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, September 16, 2007. She was born November 17, 1916, in West Hoboken, N.J., to the late August and Marie Brodmann Kuebler.

She earned a degree in Hospital Dietetics from Pratt Institute and a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Kentucky. She married the late Carl W. Allen in 1939, and the family moved to Blacksburg in 1949, where he held positions in the Agricultural Economics Department and College of Business at Virginia Tech. She was a teacher and later director of the Blacksburg Methodist Church Kindergarten.

She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered by her family and many friends for her graceful and generous spirit and above all, for the twinkle in her eye. She always loved travel, birding, cooking, eating good food and growing things.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon Harrell of Blacksburg and Leslie and Gary Heavener of Evans, Ga.; three grandchildren, William Allen McGeachy and his wife, Charlotte Morrison of Montgomery, Ala., Alison and her husband, Jeff Thomas of Beaufort, S.C. and Morgan Allen Heavener of Washington, D.C. and four great-grandchildren, Susie Grace and Maria Joy Morrison-McGeachy and Avery and Alex Thomas.

The family especially wants to thank the staff and caregivers at the Showalter Center, Warm Hearth Village, for the loving care they provided in her last years.

A service of memory and thanksgiving will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at the Carr Activities Center, Showalter Center. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Showalter Center, c/o William Lester, Director, 1060 Showalter Drive, Blacksburg, Va., 24060.
