James Monroe Allen, 68, of Newport (Craig County), died Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was born in Montgomery County on May 1, 1939, to the late Fred Mason and Lula Alls Allen. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Reba Linkous Allen; daughter, Deborah Bale; two grandchildren, Jessica Bradley and Brittany Mitcham. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wanda R. Allen, of Newport; son, Danny Joe and Amy McGuire, of Pilot; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye and Gary Bradley, of Newport, Faye and Rodney Smith, of Newport, Loretta and Matthew Wilburn, of Christiansburg, Rhonda and Bobby Mitcham, of Newport; son-in-law, Richard Bale, of Blacksburg; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley Harris, of North Carolina, Shelby and Mark Webb, of Christiansburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sayford and Brenda Allen, of Newport, Clayton and Patty Allen, of Blacksburg, Roger and Peggy Allen, of Christiansburg, Dennis and Debbie Allen, of Christiansburg; special brother-in-law, Stanley Linkous; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy cherished spending time with his family whom he loved very much.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 28, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Level Green Christian Church with the Rev. Rador Vaden and Minister Sammy Shupe officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Green Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 144, Newport, Va., 24128. Friends may call anytime after noon Sunday and the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg.
