Allen, Darlene F.

Darlene F. Allen, formerly of Blacksburg, died February 15, 2019 of cancer. She was born in 1936 in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was predeceased by her husband, C. Dean Allen.

She is survived by her daughters, Katherine English (husband Carlton Jr.) of Blacksburg, Va., Janet Gruenberg (Scott) of Prospect, Ky., Susan Allen of Menlo Park, Calif., and Margaret Allen (Christian Trejbal) of Portland, Ore. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Nicholas English of Blacksburg and Gretchen and Charlotte Gruenberg of Lexington, Ky.

Darlene received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University and taught in the public schools of Lansing, Mich., Park Forest, Ill., and, for most her career, Montgomery County, Va. She has been active in NARFE, the Virginia Partners of the Americas, The Friends of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, the Democratic Party, the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, and City Club of Portland.

At her request no funeral services will be held. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, the Free Clinic of the NRV, or the Partners of the Americas.
