Ali-Clark, Susan Law

After a hard-fought battle against cancer Susan Griffin Law Ali-Clark laid down her sword and shield at her home on August 28, 2022. Susan was born on April 18, 1957 in Pearisburg, Virginia to William Aubrey and Marian Griffin Law of Pembroke, Virginia.

She attended Pembroke Elementary School and graduated from Giles High School in 1975. She attained a Bachelor’s of Science in Sociology from Virginia Tech, a Master’s of Science in Psychology from Radford University, an Education Specialist Degree from Radford University and a Doctorate in Philosophy of Applied Behavioral Studies from Oklahoma State University where she also taught for several years.

Susan dedicated her life to the service and advocacy of the poor and downtrodden and anyone else needed a hand or a kind word. Susan was a Board-Certified Therapist in New York State and the Commonwealth of Virginia and worked both as a School Psychologist and in Private Practice. Susan retired from Private Practice in 2005 to pursue a business opportunity. In the spring of 2020, Susan and her husband Mark renovated her childhood home and returned to Pembroke.

Susan loved to camp and float down the New River. She enjoyed riding the backroads of Giles County on her motorcycle. She loved to play casino slots…never hitting it big but almost always returning home even up and with a huge grin. She was an avid reader of most anything to do with history or the metaphysical world. She was an exceptional cook, trying out new recipes and using ones handed down by her mother and aunts. She loved being with friends and family, but coveted her times of solitude and quiet. She fervently believed that she would one day be with her family, friends and dogs in the next life.

The life of anyone who met and knew Susan was changed and became richer for having known her. I knew her for over fifty years and will love her to the end of my days when we are reunited in a home not made by hands but eternal in the heavens.

Susan was preceded in death by her Mother, Marian Griffin Law, and her Father, William Aubrey Law. She is survived by a large and loving family: Her husband Mark Delos Clark, daughter Ariel Clark, son-in-law Ethan Gleiner, granddaughter Alina Clark, brother Leon (Debbie) Law, sister Jane (Semih) Olcmen, sisters-in-law: Marcia Peterson, Monica (Jeff) Hobbs, Miriam (Al) Saguto as well as six nieces and five nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Pembroke Christian Church on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 in the afternoon. Join us in the Fellowship Hall afterwards for a post-service reception.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a generous gift to the American Cancer Society.
