Cottie Frances Smith Albert, 83, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Showalter Center in Blacksburg, Va., where she had made her home for the past three years with her beloved cat, Frisky. Mrs. Albert worked for many years as a waitress at the Virginian Restaurant and at McLean Drug Store before retiring to become a full-time grandmother.

Mrs. Albert was born on August 9, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Ernest Garland and Emily Huffman Smith. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wayne Albert; a son, Stephen Douglas Albert; her brother, Willard Smith; and sister, Bonnie Perdue.

Mrs. Albert is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Wayne and Marilyn Rowe Albert, of Pearisburg, Va.; daughter-inlaw, Brenda Leigh Schwartz, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandsons, Michael Stephen Roberts, of Richmond, Va., Scott Douglas and Becky Roberts, of Krumm, Texas, Christopher Matthew and Lori Buckland Albert, of Cornelius, N.C., and Aaron Thomas and Rebecca Thomas Albert, of Fredericksburg, Va.; two great-grandsons, Nathanael Michael Roberts and Jude Gabriel Albert; and two greatstepgrandchildren, Philip Thomas and Isabella Thomas. Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Francis L. and Zana Albert, of McCoy, Va., John and Mary Nell Pauley, of McCoy, Don and Nedra Croy, of Blacksburg, Va., Susie Belle Vest, of Floyd, Va., and Nola Albert, of Floyd; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Albert will also be missed by many friends and caregivers at Showalter.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Givens Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Joel Saucedo officiating. Burial will follow at the Albert Family Cemetery in McCoy, Va. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to the First Christian Church in Pearisburg or to the Warm Hearth Employees Appreciation Fund, Showalter Center, Blacksburg.
